Last but not least we would really, really appreciate any test reports on the Junk Store Decky PR. The process has changed to get things merged to the Decky Main store; there is now only a 2 week window to get testing reports before the PR is marked as stale and removed. We would love some community support with this process to ensure that there are no issues with the code.

(end of post!)
Anyway, I’ve used Junk-Store for well over a year now, and I swear by it. To me the benefit is how while running from within Decky, the library you’re presented (of your Epic Games titles, or GOG) looks exactly as it does in your regular games’ library on the Steam Deck.
It feels like an extension of what is already there, as stock and pretty as if it were official. It makes playing your claimed (or bought) games a breeze.
And another by another YouTuber, doing something similar!
Yes, GOG is a once-off payment of $6.00 USD, for me that’s more than worth the time they dev puts in to the work, just like XBPlay (upscaling Xbox games through cloud gaming on my Steam Deck!) was a once-off payment, to me I feel like I’m getting a steal.
Anyway, a heads-up for those who run it (or want to!), a nice update has been made!
(also, not my picture I attached to this. It belongs to one from the Junk-Store - Annie!
That vs heroic?
Both are awesome but Heroic is more for desktop use while JunkStore is a Decky Loader plugin with a UX/UI more tailored towards game mode, making it ideal to use on the deck.
Oh I haven’t played with Decky Loader, I don’t have the patience for all that stuff anymore so first solution that works is good enough for me
It’s as easy as any other alternative. You just download and run it. Afterwards, it’s even easier than alternatives, since you don’t need to get out of game mode to add games.
GOG is a once-off payment of $6
Where do I send this?
Oh my gosh, 20MTD in a wild screenshot??
If you’re into top-down shooter rogue likes, 20mtd is super fun and the dev is pretty cool from what I’ve seen. I’ve got almost 250 hours in it
I hate to break the atmosphere, but I just threw this together without taking my own screenshot of my Junk-Store!
This is a screenshot which belongs to one of the Junk-Store team - Annie, which I just grabbed quickly from an image search via DDG
she’s also rather lovely, HI ANNIE!
…one thing is for sure, with 250 hours in the game it seems you’ve got to be a huge fan of it!!!
Hey hope you are well! Your posts are amazing as always, I just read your latest Steam Deck News post!
I must admit I haven’t actually played this game, I guess I’ll have to add it to my backlog of games to play.
I have recently gone back to playing DREDGE with a vengence so it might take me a while to try this game out.
DREDGE!!!
(it will forever be my fav game I ever played on the Steam Deck! That Lovecraftian horror is somehow so so cozy!!)
Thanks, you two. Nice to see you here in the comments and on Lemmy!!! <3
It’s a great deck game.
God yeah it is. Feels like it was built for the steam deck (with the exception of track pad weirdness)
I haven’t even looked at Epic because I don’t want to have to deal with their stuff. Now I might reconsider it. And $6 to make my GOG games play like they’re from Steam just sounds like a good idea.
Heroic Launcher does them both too, probably a bit less slick though
I will warn you that sometimes epic/gog games won’t work without some manual troubleshooting. You sometimes have to install windows components like .net and various dll files. Heroic and Junk store let you use winetricks to install these easily, but it can be tricky to figure out what components you’re actually missing.
Heroic recently added in UMU support which is making a database of these needed components, and will automatically install them as needed. Eventually that project hopes to make Heroic/Junk/etc as smooth of an experience as playing the same games through steam, but for right now it can be hit or miss if a game will “just work” or not.
Oh, I get that, but Junk still sounds easier than trying to finagle Heroic to work through the standard game interface, rather than desktop mode. I’ve done it before, but anything that makes it easier is a win for me, and anything that streamlines using GOG instead of Steam is worth it to me, if only to add pressure to game publishers to avoid DRM.
Does this mean that gog was finally released or will it be still stuck under paywall?
I mean…did you read the notes here?
Didn’t notice it 💀
There are other free alternatives. But Junk-Store is better integrated into Steam Game Mode and supporting good software should always be in your best interest, even more so with specialized quality software like Junk-Store. If you have $6 at your disposal, it’s well worth it.
