It probably has much to do with the reputation of the Chinese. As here in the Netherlands our beaches (in some hotspot locations) in the summer have German police coupled with dutch Police. Helps with any cultural and language barrier.

Edit: clarified this is not on all beaches everywhere.

China and Thailand are pretty well-aligned, but policing should be a domestic issue. I wouldn’t want US police operating in Canada (although, legally, the US CBP can operate 100 miles from every land border and every Canadian airport with US preclearance, which I’m fairly sure covers like 80% of the population anywayl.

I don’t live near the beach, ut the language barrier and uniform could help.

Personally I experienced this in Stuttgart when the world cup was being played. The orange legion was put in force and everywhere where tandems of a German and a Dutch police officer. The atmosphere was nice and I ended up having a nice chat with one of the Dutch officers. They also enjoyed it and it seemed to help also for ditches that did not speak German, so that was good overall.
