  • It’s fairly easy to infer that Fox would not give a sympathetic or neutral interview to someone with views that the hosts fundamentally disagree with. The mod was unprepared, had poor lighting - which surely Fox could have asked them to fix before the show - started rocking back and forth, but they also have a lot of subtle ways of manipulating the audience. If you watch their other shows, the hosts use facial expressions and negative tones of voice to express what they want viewers to feel about the topic - look like they’re having an orgasm when they mention Trump, scowl and use a derisive tone for Democratic politicians. Some of that was going on with Waters’ smug smirk, but I think he detected quickly that the mod was an easy target and he didn’t have to do much for the intended effect. For some reason the interview drifted to the interviewee’s personal life vs. antiwork, too, and that’s intentional imo.

  • Swallowing requires coordination of a lot of different muscles. Do you mean that you can’t get the swallowing process to start or that you swallow and food doesn’t go down all the way?

I had a lot of problems with the latter when I was sick with undiagnosed celiac and later developing type 1 diabetes. I’d swallow fine, but it would feel like the food was stuck in my sternum and it was very miserable. They couldn’t find anything physically wrong with my esophagus at the time. My interpretation was the esophagus was inflamed from acid reflux and thus narrowed.

  • Go to the bottom of any page and there by the link to the modlog is a link “Instances”. That’s a long list of all instances that server is federated or defederated with. (It’s actually kind of disturbing how many federated instances there are that don’t seem to be active - possibly just slurping data? But that’s a different story).

Anyway, scroll down and make sure the whole page loaded, then search for the name of the one you’re looking for in your browser, and see if it’s on the federated or defederated list (Linked Instances vs. Blocked Instances).

  • I’m sure their infrastructure includes various GOL software, like most tech/ecommerce companies. China is not known for caring much about copyright (or copyleft) and I doubt if they provide much information about that. I’m not sure why you think it would help indicate how much personal information they’re storing from people, and in any event, I think we can assume they at least store the same sort of info about customers and web visitors as sites like Amazon or Google.

  • Yeah, I was about 40 and I had no idea what was happening. I had just been getting better after being finally diagnosed with Celiac. I was really sick and even saw one of the major hospitals in the country for 2 weeks, they didn’t figure out what was going on… then I finally had to go to the ER when I was, they said, 1-2 days away from dying or going into a coma. Definitely caused some problems in between then.

I haven’t seen much T1 action on Lemmy yet, but the communities on reddit are quite good.

  • Good note, that’s another one that’s totally different. Diabetes was originally named for a large flow of urine, which is the connection I guess, but insipidus doesn’t have the connection to high blood glucose. Type 1 and type 2 are Diabetes Mellitus, named for the urine smelling sweet (like honey, ooh!) from the sugar expelled in it. The kind I have is also called Type 1.5, but it’s more like type 1. There’s also an even more rare kind, similar to type 1, called MODY, which is purely genetic.

Oh, I see what you mean. I thought you meant output HTML and templating vs server side logic, but yes, obviously I know the difference as the only front-end language is JavaScript and derivatives.

I’m more used to the terms ‘server-side’ and ‘client-side’ btw. Obviously PHP is server-side. But not all server-side is backend in my view. I consider backend to be application logic and things like database access. Templating can be done on the server or the client, and that’s front-end.
