Oh, it’s gonna use polkit. Sudo bloat is a grain of sand compared to polkit.
Why people want to replace sudo with polkit? Visudo is no near as obscure as configuring polkit.
I hope distro maintainers don’t follow this.
Parallel Desktop
There are several FOSS alternatives. All of them are more popular that Parallels.
Nobody likes Adobe, nobody wants to work with Adobe. Nobody can avoid Photoshop. That’s just the world we live in and I don’t like it.
This sounds like Stockholm syndrome. You are just too familiar with Photoshop, so using anything else is hard and less efficient.
In photography there is this mantra about “the most important part is right behind the camera”. A good photographer is not a good Nikon user, or good Canon user. A good photographer can deliver decent pictures with a potato camera if needed.
Sure, a potato camera is less efficient for any work that an actual good one. So it’s good to invest in a good brand. But the point is: if you are not capable to make average results with a potato software, the problem is not in the software.
I used a hand dust blower intended for photography gear. I opened the laptop, blew the dust, disconnected the SSD and blew the socket and it’s surroundings.
Now I will monitor the logs and see if it helps.
Thanks.
I opened it. All cables were looking good. I used a hand blower to clean the dust. Taked out the SSD and blew the socket and everything around.
Now I’m going to monitor if it keeps happening.

OK. I’ll use a dust blower for photography gear. Thanks. Let’s see if it works.
I did a short and a long test. It looks good

[…] by replacing the motherboard, by replacing the processor, by reseating the NVME drive in its slot, by verifying that your power supply is reliable…
I will start with the cheapest option 😅
I assume the power supply is reliable. Having a battery should make it more stable I guess.
Meme language? It was not rewritten in Javascript.
UI/UX 101, my friend.
If people are used to see specific symbols for years is hard for them to use different ones.
There’s a reason why floppy disk is still the icon for “save”.
Those people drive cars on the road!
Imagine if they change all road signs designs suddenly before you go for a ride.
I remember myself asking why directories had x flags in their permissions. Like, you don’t execute them. What do they use the x flag for?
We will switch to GNU/Hurd.
Then we will plug a USB device and remember that Hurd doesn’t support that yet.
I recommend Mint.
Chances are your friend’s secondary laptop doesn’t have extra resources for Gnome to run smoothly. Sad thing is nowadays Gnome is very heavy and bloated.
Also, he may try both distros live-usb. Maybe he don’t care about Mint looking outdated. But if he does, you may try Fedora live-usb and check if university wifi works properly.
It’s his laptop after all, so I believe your appreciations on the beauty of desktop environments are secondary.
There are two kind of programming languages:
by default?
My work laptop came with Ubuntu preinstaled and didn’t have tmux nor htop.
Vim is not present by default in at least debian and arch. Although vi is present in every distribution I believe.
tmux, htop, vim
