I hope a previously suggested goal of improving KDE for organizations makes a comeback. It was basically all about all the things a business/organisation would need to roll out a fleet of KDE computers, mainly tools for remote / centralised management by an IT department.

In the wake of Windows’s recent and continued trend, more and more public institutions, universities, government etc should be looking at switching away from Windows. There’s also EUs recent Digital Sovereignty Initiative.

German state Schleswig-Holstein is already swapping 30k computers to Linux

This is a big deal. Joplin is great, but its database structure is horrible for interoperability.

Hopefully Klevernotes will also be more snappy and “native feeling”. Joplin being Electron can be a bit sluggish sometimes ( which is mildly infuriating given that the database structure was chosen over plain files due to “performance”).

That said, it be nice if Klevernotes was a WYSIWIG editor. There really are a lot of dual-view markdown editors with a preview. For generel notes / productivity I find the dual view distracting, but need the preview for images etc

Instead of one super chunky battery, how about a laptop with replaceable batteries, in combination with a UPS?

UPS is so you can actually replace the laptop battery with a spare one , even during a power outage. Just run the laptop on AC from the UPS while changing batteries. Or see if you can find a UPS with a long lasting battery. Entry level ones only have like 15-30 minutes of battery life though, since they’re more intended for safe shutdowns or brownouts.

Not Op, just want to chime in that sadly these days a lot of keyboards and laptops come without the context-menu button.

There were even some Logitech keyboard that would use the “context menu” button to trigger a right-click (where the mouse cursor was) instead of opening the context menu (of the currently focused item)

(Shift+F10 works as context-menu on some windows computers, but not all. Not sure if it comes down to Windows versions or different hardware)

Why did they have their own builds of these projects in the first place? Did they have custom patches they maintained?

Yeah Track&Graph is great. I also use it for tracking exercises and weight, and just use the built-in graphs to see the trend over time

I know your pain! (Cries in Nvidia laptop) when i bought mine i literally couldn’t find a laptop with AMD graphics in my region.

There is some hope these days. In addition to the previously mentioned Frameworks laptop, there’s also this TUXEDO Sirius 16 - Gen1. (Tuxedo is a German company specializing in Linux-compatible computers). It might not be exactly what your looking for, but AMD graphics laptops are so few and far between I thought I should put it out there.

The biggest problem with Discord is that its an information black hole. Its not properly searchable and not indexed by search engines.

Discord is fine for casual chat, but horrible when used for forum-type discussions and even worse when used for documentation.

You see the same problems being discussed and solved again and again, but you cant just “link” someone the solution like you could with a forum thread cause its spread out over 3-10 chat messages that are interleaved in-between other topics being discussed in the same room

Anything of long-term value for the project (forum-type discussions, documentation etc) should not recide in Discord

Does that mean TreeDome is the only program that can meaningfully open the notes file?

Is there a mobile client planned? Or do you know if any current mobile apps are able to read the TreeDome notes file?

With everything stored in a single file, does that mean you need to close Treedome on ComputerA before it can by synced to ComputerB?

If computerA makes an edit in one note while computer B makes an edit in another note, does that create a sync conflict? (Assuming syncing with Nextcloud, syncThing or similar)?

Suffice to say, sluggish performance on your hardware shouldn’t be expected, so something must be wrong.

In KDE System monitor you can try adding a new page to show CPU clock speed , to check if the Dell is not throttling. (Dell laptops throttling on the wrong charger is definitely a thing, but I’ve only experienced on more powerful laptops)

Since you installed pre-release software I assume you don’t mind re-installing, so you could always try Neon Stable with 5.27, Kubuntu 23.10 or another distro entirely, to ensure your laptop is OK.

I’ve been running Plasma on my Intel Skylake I5-6?00U with 8gb RAM since 2015 and its utterly fine, no sluggishness in plasma itself. It’s still using X11 though, on an old Kubuntu LTS.

Plasma isn’t THAT heavy that it should be expected to feel sluggish on that kind of hardware. And contrary to popular belief Plasma isn’t actually that heavy of a DE in terms of resources.

OP might need to try different compositor backends? I remember years ago testing each before settling on whatever gave me smoothest performance (maybe OpenGL3?). Actually I’m not sure if this is even a setting anymore in modern Plasma, or in Wayland

Depending on what you need, you might get away with any old small PC (like 1 litre office PCs or old thin clients), or an SBC like Raspberry Pi.

For Operating system, instead of Android, try LibreELEC, or any Linux distro starting straight in to Kodi could work, for Firefox in Kiosk mode opening your Jellyfin.

Bazzite is a version of Fedora initially started as a steamOS alternative for the steam deck. So if you install the Deck version of Bazzite it boots straight in to Steam Big Picture intended for the TV.

KDE Plasma also has a Plasma Big Screen version, but I’m not sure how ready that is yet, or if it’s easy to install.

I did this too :D I used to have 20 pairs of non-identical black socks, which made matching hard and it felt wrong to wear socks of slightly different type or size. Much easier now

I keep getting socks for Christmas though, which I never wear cause they’d mess up the simplicity
