My favorite is: if you disagree, you can always just go to another instance or even create your own. Other than that, I like how, instead of a total score, posts show likes and dislikes separately. This is more of a technical thing than a cultural one, but it has a big impact on making brigading less effective. In general, all these technical decisions make Lemmy very friendly to a variety of cultures and people from across different spectrums of political and other opinions.
Proton has some technical issues as well. Recently there was a day when email wasn’t working at all for hours, maybe even half a day. I’m paying for their VPN sub and using it for years and not going to move in nearby future, but if I was picking something now I would carefully consider other options. Never heard about those mentioned in thread though, if they are new I wouldn’t use them, I’d like something with good record track of at least one decade, better few decades.
I use all three: mastodon, bluesky, and twitter. Mostly because people I follow are on different platforms. Personally, I would settle for mastodon alone. There is a recent big wave of artists moving from twitter to bluesky because twitter got new policy that makes it impossible to opt-out from using images posted on twitter as AI training material. Actually those new rules to me sound like they’re problematic in terms of author rights in general, not only AI stuff.
It has some cool features that aren’t available even in some of the leading industry DAWs like key/scale note highlight, but it also lacks some absolutely essential basic features like showing the playback position in beat mode (it means when you writing beats you can’t see where playback is at currently).
Yep, maybe it would benefit from more advertisement but I decided to not recommend it until I experience it for some time. It took me a week or two to realize that I don’t like moderation at lemmy-world for example, I would definitely recommend choosing other instances, and then, it takes time to figure out which ones are worth recommending. Some are extremist far-left/far-right, some are at risk of shutting down if admin gets bored and decides to stop paying for hosting from his personal money.
It’s the most popular instance with questionable politics and moderation and this move pushes people to other instances before they even discover deeper issues there. Most instances have zero issues with VPNs, and it doesn’t even matter what is the parent instance of community you’re posting to. Which means you can post the same stuff into the same place from almost any other instance using VPN.
I’m pretty much happy with conversations I see here. Plenty of quality discussion threads in AskLemmy, Gaming and Technology and Anime. Would be nice to see even more ofc, but Lemmy’s not that big yet I guess. Questions is something that often starts interesting discussions.
I look almost the same as I did when I was twice as young as I am right now and I understand that during this decade I’ll probably leave the age bracket where this is possible.
I like decentralized approach and modlog feature. Really nice to be able to monitor moderation and see reasons for certain actions. This helps a lot to understand what to expect from certain instances, make the best choices for yourself and avoid frustration in future.
I’d probably identify myself as a hikikomori. I’ve had zero meaningful offline connections for more than a decade, and at this moment, I haven’t set foot outside my apartment not even once for almost a year (although there are far more serious reasons for this than just my personality). In the future, if there will be an opportunity, I’d like to move to Asia as a digital nomad working remotely. I don’t expect to make any irl connections there either, but I’d be happy to immerse myself walking around oriental slums, parks, shrines, seaside and enjoying the local cuisine.
