  • How is that irrelevant? The folder is literally called Temp. Doesn’t matter anything else. You said, and I quote, “The kinds of people who need this message, you would have lost the second you said “temp files”.”

Obviously not sure, given where the files were located. 🤦‍♂️

And of course they didn’t know what the files were for; probably why they went searching for it, and eventually found the contact info for Richard Hipp.

Me thinks you just want to shit on people for no other reason than to make yourself feel superior to them. 👏 Congrats!

  • I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for this, and I do recognize there have been problems with it all over the place (my code too), but I like null. I don’t like how it fucks everything up. But from a data standpoint, how else are you going to treat uninitialized data, or data with no value? Some people might initialize an empty string, but to me that’s a valid value in some cases. Same for using -1 or zero for numbers. There are cases where those values are valid. It’s like using 1 for true, and zero for false.

Whomever came up with the null coalescing operator (??) and optional chaining (?->) are making strides with handling null more elegantly.

I’m more curious why JavaScript has both null and undefined, and of course NaN. Now THAT is fucked up. Make it make sense.

You obviously don’t suffer from a sensitive circadian rhythm. To that I’d say, lucky you. But there are plenty of people who do suffer. And by the time they finally get used to the time change, it’s time to change again. It’s vicious and disruptive; to more than just scheduling. It has a direct (negative) impact on physical and mental health.

  • In the first three months since dropping the paywall, the newsroom welcomed 1,254 new donors who hadn’t previously paid to access their coverage. From December 5, 2023 to March 15, 2024, the Forward received nearly $583,000 in donations under $5,000 — a 37% increase over paid subscription revenue during the same time frame the previous year. In December, the month the Forward removed the paywall, the nonprofit saw a 103% increase in reader revenue under $5,000, compared to the same time last year. That includes 176 new monthly recurring donors, averaging $16/month. Previously, an annual digital subscription brought in $51.21, just over $4/month.

Wow! Let’s hope this becomes a trend for other newspapers.

  • You should listen to your medical professional

Yes, and absolutely, No! If you’ve built a rapport with somebody, and you trust them, then yes listen to them. If you feel uncomfortable with them, then get a second (or third) opinion. If you’re ever unsure about why your doctor suggested something, ask them questions. If they wave you off or get offended, then maybe they don’t have your best interest at heart, and are more concerned for their pride.

The point is, you are your only advocate*. If you do not stand up for yourself, no one else will. It’s also important to note that your mind is yours alone. Only you know how you feel, what you think, and can make decisions based on your thoughts. Do your best to convey them to others as you can, but give yourself grace in that you can’t always make people understand you.

    * There are always exceptions, and some people cannot advocate for themselves. In my non-medical opinion, OP doesn’t sound like someone who cannot advocate for themselves.
