I remember people being upset by the ribbon back when office 2007 was released. Their complaints made sense until I sat down and used it. Found it to be a great improvement. I switched my libre office to the ribbon layout as soon as they added it. Because I don’t use it often, it’s great for finding stuff compared to looking through the menus.
The nice thing about the LO implementation is also that they added a couple of varieties of the design, like the compact one which pushes things closer together so it’s not distracting.

The jury found that Zynga infringed that patent, as well as a '719 patent designed to “improve the performance” of Internet apps by “reducing network communication delays.” That patent describes technology that improves an app’s performance by “reducing the number of required interactions between client and server,” IBM’s complaint said, and also makes it easier to develop and update apps.

That’s so far from the truth, it hurts me to read it. Games are one of the most optimised programs you can run on your computer. Just think about it, it’s a application rendering an entire imaginary world every dozen milliseconds. Compare it to anything else you run, like say slack or teams, which makes your CPU sweat just to notify you about a new message.

It’s not that uncharacteristic. Mono is a fully open source project they didn’t create, didn’t really work on, and one they can’t extract any value from. So this is basically a gesture that doesn’t cost them anything, but at the same time it doesn’t do much except generate a headline.
But check that it has all the features you need because it lags behind gitea in some aspects (like ci).
I live in a qwertz ISO layout country, but I use qwerty ANSI layout keyboards because I find that text editing is better with them. Makes finding a laptop pretty hard though.
Podman quadlets have been a blessing. They basically let you manage containers as if they were simple services. You just plop a container unit file in /etc/containers/systemd/
, daemon-reload and presto, you’ve got a service that other containers or services can depend on.
I really like gnome the software, but I’ve started considering moving away from it after a decade simply because of how toxic and difficult gnome the project can be.
If this was done by multiple people, I’m sure the person that designed this delivery mechanism is really annoyed with the person that made the sloppy payload, since that made it all get detected right away.
TIL there are Linux people that don’t use OpenWRT. I always assumed everyone in the Linux community used it. It’s great.

I use gnome for the most part. I have been checking out kde recently to see how the newer versions stack up (gave up on it during the 4.0 days). As you mention kde supports dpms changes on wayland because they have their own protocol extension for that.
That’s actually my biggest gripe with wayland - the huge amount of fragmentation it has caused. I’m pretty confident that almost all the missing features I talked about are possible on one or two of the compositors, but not all of them. And definitely not on the one I use. I’m sure once some pragmatism takes hold that all the issues will be ironed out, but my plan for now is to stick to X11 until that happens.
For me it’s a million little details that just don’t work. Stuff like positioning windows, removing decorations from a window, remapping buttons on a trackball, setting a graphics output to tvrgb, disabling a display via ssh and enabling it again, etc.
It’s not just about hardware compatibility. It has to be compatible with existing workflows, and it’s currently very limiting.

Well there’s no shortage of those, and they’re unusually cheaper too (unless they’re specced out). I prefer a thin silent one myself, so I welcome this innovation.
