This Russian puppet thing was a masterstroke of propaganda, because it gave liberals, who were already American exceptionalists, the perfect excuse to substitute xenophobia for an actual critique of capitalism. Could Trump be a result of and manifestation of a rancid homegrown ideology that arose from the contradictions between the classes? No, he’s being controlled by the bad foreigners. But i mean, let’s be real. “Propaganda” to you people has always just meant “any evidence that runs counter to the reality I wish to cultivate”. Like when nazis running Ukraine was “just propaganda” until all the swastika and totenkopf pictures became too much to deny, at which point you just stopped talking about it.
