So the gist of it is basically that in prior times like this, the discredited young men have taken it to the streets, assembling in groups of other similar men and start causing trouble by breaking windows and kicking grannies. However, we’re not seeing this now despite the record numbers of such men and one hypothesis for why this is, is that those men are instead withdrawing from the society into their mom’s basements and spending their time playing games, watching porn and smoking weed.

I completely agree. It’s not an echo chamber I’m trying to build here. I never block anyone only for having a different opinion. Quite the contrary; I actively look for a debate. I just don’t want to engage with people who do it in bad faith.

Oh absolutely. A huge number of the people I’ve blocked are probably perfectly decent people and I just happened to notice them write that one snide response.

However, I’ve quite often seen blocked people commenting to me and I’ve logged out to read the comment and I’d say about 50% of the time it has been a mean comment only proving that I blocked them for a good reason. I also sometimes go thru the modlog and a huge number of the the users I see there I have already blocked.

I agree with your point though. You’re right, I just don’t care. There’s so many people here that when I block someone there’s another to take their place. There’s just too much to pay attention to.

I agree. I could block 90% of the people online and there would still be an endless feed of new content to pay attention to. I don’t miss anything by blocking users that I wouldn’t be missing either way.

What is it with the constant cynicism even in the face of actual good news? This is absolutely a step in the right direction on Apple’s part.

I’d give everyone a device that allows them to take photos of themselves and their lives, and then instantly post them online. Other people would be able to rate and comment on how well or badly they think someone is doing, based on these curated snapshots of their existence. In this experiment, people could also scroll through endless streams of these ‘highlights,’ constantly comparing their lives to others. To spice it up, I’d introduce a feature that allows people to see how many likes or comments other posts are getting, so they can feel great or miserable about themselves in real-time.

Most other people wont be reading it either so I don’t see an issue with pointing out the obvious misconception people could make based on the headline that talks about exploding batteries.
